Job Summary
Provide specific assistance in the development, planning, and construction of new or existing facilities under the general direction of the Director of Capital Projects and Major Maintenance. Responsibilities include reviewing design drawings and specifications for conformance with district programs and building design standards, providing construction management services (including administration of construction contracts and related functions), assisting in developing plans for new and remodel work, serving as liaison between the district and project design firms, reviewing contractor progress evaluations, and performing other duties as assigned to support the construction program. Provides cross-functional collaboration with architects, engineers, site administrators, and contractors; requires hands-on construction experience and ability to work in a cross-cultural rural Alaska environment; travel to remote village locations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Hands-on construction experience
- Bachelor's degree with emphasis in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field, or work experience sufficient to substitute for formal education
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, equipment, procedures, and materials pertinent to the construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of buildings and related facilities and equipment
- Demonstrated ability to use PC computers, electronic office equipment, and familiar with general office procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with architects, engineers, site administrators, and the contractor’s management team
- The ability to live and work in a cross-cultural rural Alaskan environment
- The ability and willingness to travel to remote village locations, as necessary
