Job Summary
Provide interpreting services primarily in healthcare settings, translating orally between Cantonese and English in both directions. Deliver accurate, complete, and clear communication for medical professionals, patients, government agencies, and community organizations while maintaining high fidelity to the original message. Work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, meeting the specific communication needs of various stakeholders. This independent contract position requires fluency in both languages, a valid California license, and the ability to obtain medical clearances and background checks. Based in the Modesto area with a flexible schedule, the role supports Interlingva's mission to bridge language barriers for healthcare providers and diverse industries across the United States.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in both Cantonese and English
- Demonstrated experience providing accurate, complete, and clear interpretation in medical, legal, and community settings, with the highest level of fidelity to the original communication
- Strong ability to interpret orally between Cantonese and English in both directions
- Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Skilled in meeting the communication needs of medical professionals, patients, government agencies, community organizations, and internal stakeholders
- Combination of formal interpreter training and/or relevant professional experience
- Must be based in Modesto Area
- Willingness to obtain required medical clearances, including vaccination/immunization records and background checks, as necessary
- Possession of a valid California license
