Job Summary
Patrol the facility to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism while responding to security needs for personnel, patients, and visitors. Investigate incidents or unusual occurrences, provide appropriate follow-up and documentation, and testify in court when requested by subpoena. Maintain professional relationships with hospital departments, local law enforcement agencies, and the public while adhering to system procedures and accreditation standards. Complete mandatory healthcare security and de-escalation training within 90 days of orientation. Work a rotating schedule of one week with three 12-hour shifts or one week with four 12-hour shifts at Singing River Gulfport Hospital.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the field of law enforcement or security
- Successfully complete the SRHS Healthcare Security Training
- Appropriate level of de-escalation training
- Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue
- Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends
- Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision-making abilities
- Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone
- Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
- Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations
- Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
- Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word
- Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages
- Must be confident, even-tempered, tolerant, and knowledgeable of law enforcement procedures and techniques
- Must have a neat appearance
- Must demonstrate respect for the rights, property and privacy of others
- Must display a professional image at all times
- Must be able to interrelate well with all hospital departments (all levels of supervision and management) and employees, patients, visitors, medical staff members, the public and local law enforcement agencies

- Must be able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction
- Must be able to make fine discriminations in sound
- Must have close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
- Must be able to use many physical motions in performing daily work activities
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Must be able to use repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard
- Must be able to work moderately active schedules involving sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area
