Job Summary
Conduct daily and periodic walkthroughs of the campus to identify maintenance, cleanliness, or safety concerns while monitoring building security. Perform routine grounds upkeep including sidewalk snow removal, execute custodial tasks like floor cleaning and restroom sanitization, and execute minor repairs such as drywall patching and plumbing fixes. Manage room setups by moving furniture, adjust thermostats, and assist with opening/closing the building as scheduled. Partner with the Facilities Director to scope out-of-scope projects, provide on-site access for vendors, and track facility requests in the work order system. This hourly, non-exempt position requires 1–2 years of custodial or maintenance experience and involves 90% indoor work with occasional ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate
- At least one year of relevant custodial or building maintenance experience
- Completion of training in building maintenance/cleaning techniques from a technical or recognized institution
- At least 1–2 years of related custodial or basic building maintenance experience
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
- Basic working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) sufficient to identify and report issues
- Ability to perform minor repairs within skill level
- Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment and use mechanical lifts
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to comprehend basic housekeeping and maintenance procedures
- Ability to provide customer service in a professional, friendly manner to campus staff, volunteers, and guests
- Strong judgment in distinguishing tasks within scope from those requiring escalation
- Self-motivated
- Ability to work independently
- Reliability in reporting to work on a regular and timely basis
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above ground level
