Camp Lifeguard at Greenwich

Job Summary

Teach daily swimming lessons to campers ages 3-14 while ensuring pool safety, managing water quality, and implementing opening and closing procedures. Provide group management and supervision for children, promptly reporting concerns to the Site Director. Complete weekly progress reports, share responsibilities with other instructors, and model ESF Core Values and character virtues daily. Maintain clear communication with campers, families, and leadership. Respond to emergencies, including running and ascending stairs, while possessing the physical capability to lift 35 pounds and perform rescue operations. Work Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:40 pm with pre-approved schedule changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least age 16 by the start of camp
  • Must have certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid Certification
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification
  • Must have the physical capability to see (near and far), climb, bend, swim, float, kneel, and carry individuals during rescue operations
  • Push/pull, lift, and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus
  • Work outside, upright, and mobile for six (8) hours per day
  • Respond to emergencies, including running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion
  • Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
  • Must be able to maintain clear, concise, and engaging communication with campers, families, peers, and our leadership team
  • Must be able to supervise campers
  • Must be able to foster a positive, welcoming, and safe environment
  • Must be able to demonstrate ESF Core Values & Code daily
  • Must be able to model the ESF Virtues of Character daily
  • Must be able to adhere to all company policies
  • Must be able to complete all required ESF and state-mandated training and onboarding
  • Must be able to maintain proper pool procedures for opening, water quality (testing, chlorine, etc.), and closing
  • Must be able to ensure the safety and well-being of campers with an emphasis on positive behavior and effective group management
  • Must be able to work effectively with other Lifeguard/Swim Instructors
  • Must be able to share various responsibilities
  • Must be able to provide daily swim instruction to campers ages 3-14 at various skill levels
  • Must be able to complete weekly progress reports for all campers and other required paperwork
  • Must be able to prompt report any concerns to the Site Director
  • Must be able to take direction from the Camp Aquatics Director
  • Must be able to have additional accountability to the Site Director
  • Must be able to pre-approve schedule changes or time off by the site director
  • Must be able to enjoy nights and weekends off
  • Must be able to increase earnings through referrals from your network
  • Must be able to receive reimbursements for qualified roles (including Lifeguarding)
  • Must be able to enjoy a significantly discounted tuition rate exclusively for Team members' children

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous swimming background with swim team, water polo team or other structured swim program preferred
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp setting is preferred
