Job Summary
Provide routine to moderately complex technical lab and field support for a research program in Entomology at Cornell’s Hudson Valley Lab. Assist with insect monitoring and field research; assist in the cultivation and maintenance of insect colonies; develop and maintain standard laboratory records; prepare standard stains, media, buffers and reagents; prepare and maintain standard tissue and cell culture for experimentation; perform standard cell/tissue assays and data analysis; maintain lab records and equipment; ensure adherence to lab safety, radiation and chemical safety procedures; complete lab safety training and proper chemical waste handling; assist with course instruction setup and inventory ordering. This is a full-time, 97.5% FTE, one-year term appointment with no relocation support. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma and up to 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting
- Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a lab setting and proper waste handling
- Experience with Microsoft office suite – including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with outlook
- Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS driver’s license and be cleared to drive for university business
- Ability to communicate verbally and written with faculty, staff and students
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members
