Job Summary
Cafeteria Helper responsible for preparing and serving nutritious menu items in accordance with state and federal guidelines for Child Nutrition Programs. Duties include monitoring and documenting food temperatures during storage, preparation, and service; assisting with inventory; cleaning and sanitizing production areas and equipment; properly disposing of waste; using the POS system to enter student meal counts; and following production procedures to ensure quality and safety. Requires ability to read and interpret preparation instructions, operate institutional kitchen equipment, perform basic math, measure ingredients, and work collaboratively with staff. Prescribed responsibilities emphasize safety, sanitation, teamwork, training participation, and adherence to program guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Level I TASN Certification (Basic Kitchen Sanitation & Safety) preferred
- Food service experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret product preparation instructions
- Ability to operate institutional equipment
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
- Ability to measure ingredients
- Working Knowledge of production procedures
- Prepare and serve quality menu items as directed following state and federal program guidelines
- Monitor and maintain food temperatures during food storage, preparation, holding and service periods and document accordingly
- Assist with conducting inventory of food and supplies in stock
- Clean and sanitize food production areas in accordance with state and federal guidelines
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment as directed
- Report malfunctioning equipment to manager
- Properly dispose of food and plate waste as directed
- Identify reimbursable meals and enter student meal count into the POS system as needed
- Cooperate with co-workers and staff to complete required tasks in a safe manner
- Attend meetings, in services, trainings and workshops as requested
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene
- Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
- Perform other duties as assigned
