Job Summary
Review structural contract drawings and specifications for non-residential building projects. Interpret loading diagrams and apply load requirements to steel joists and girders. Analyze connections between joists, girders, and supporting members while identifying special connection needs. Coordinate with fabricators, suppliers, and designers to incorporate trade requirements into joist/girder designs. Create placement plans, sections, and details for the Structural Engineer of Record and ironworkers. Generate Bills of Material to drive shop orders for all structural components. Collaborate with customers, erectors, and general contractors to ensure high-quality, on-schedule delivery. Requires CAD software proficiency and engineering education.
Required Qualifications
- Joist/girder/deck or structural steel detailing
- Structural design/drafting/modelling
- Working on projects from concept to production
- Problem solving or quality assurance
- 2D or 3D cad software
- Education in civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, design engineering, architectural engineering, etc.
- Reading and interpreting drawings, sections, specifications and other construction related documents
