Job Summary
Hands-on Cable Technician role supporting a federal telecoms infrastructure refresh in Washington, DC. Responsible for installing, terminating, testing, labeling, and troubleshooting Cat6 copper and fiber optic cabling per BICSI standards; installing and supporting telecommunications infrastructure (patch panels, fiber enclosures, racks, cable trays, ladder racks); reading telecom drawings and installation documentation; fiber testing with OTDRs and certification tools; ensuring compliance with security, safety, and government requirements; coordinating with engineers and government personnel; and performing campus-wide modernization tasks across secure environments. Requires active Top Secret clearance, experience with structured cabling in federal environments, strong BICSI knowledge, and the ability to work onsite in Washington, DC (or relocate).
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret clearance
- Experience installing and supporting structured cabling systems in enterprise or federal environments
- Strong knowledge of BICSI standards and telecommunications infrastructure best practices
- Hands-on experience with Cat6 copper and fiber optic cable installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting
- Experience working in telecommunications rooms, MDFs, and IDFs
- Familiarity with fiber optic testing equipment and cable certification tools
- Ability to read telecom drawings and installation documentation
- Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding environments
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team
