Job Summary
Cable System Design Engineer to join AECOM's Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. Lead/assist across the full lifecycle of onshore cable projects from feasibility to commissioning, including reviewing HV/EHV HVAC/HVDC designs, performing ampacity and short circuit/thermal and electromagnetic analyses, and conducting cable routing, burial risk assessments, and installation feasibility studies. Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams; support third-party inspections, FAT/SAT, and interface with manufacturers/suppliers to ensure IEC, CIGRÉ, NG-TPs compliance. Drive technical workshops, HAZID/HAZOPs, and multidisciplinary coordination; leverage tools such as CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and mechanical simulation. Requires a minimum HNC and related qualifications; desirably NG CDAE, Chartered Engineer status or progression toward chartership. Hybrid working model with a strong focus on delivering integrated cable design solutions for wind/energy and transmission projects across the UK & Ireland.
