Job Summary
Install, terminate, and repair copper and fiber-optic telecommunications infrastructure for the Joint Base Charleston Base Telecommunications System. Perform preventive maintenance, emergency restoration, cable locating, and pathway inspections while updating records in the Telecommunications Management System. Respond to routine, priority, and emergency trouble tickets, conducting cable certification, acceptance testing, and documentation of as-built information. Coordinate with site managers, engineers, and vendors to support installations and outages, adhering to strict safety requirements and response deadlines. Maintain tools, vehicles, and Government-furnished property in serviceable condition. Requires a valid state driver's license, Joint Base Charleston access credentials, and a U.S. Tier 3/Secret security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three years of hands-on experience installing and testing copper and fiber-optic telecommunications cable and components
- Demonstrated experience with OSP and ISP cabling, cable pathways, manholes/handholes, building entrance terminals, distribution frames, pedestals, splicing, terminations, cross-connects, grounding, bonding, and labeling
- Ability to use optical loss test sets, optical time-domain reflectometers, copper certification testers, tone generators, cable locators, fusion or mechanical splicing tools, and standard telecommunications hand tools
- Ability to read and interpret cable records, floor plans, route maps, as-built drawings, work orders, technical orders, manufacturer instructions, and test documentation
- Working knowledge of telecommunications codes, standards, installation practices, and quality-control requirements applicable to Government facilities
- Ability to document work accurately, communicate clearly in English, work independently or as part of a team, and meet strict response and completion deadlines
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, working above ceilings, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Valid state driver's license
- Ability to obtain and maintain Joint Base Charleston access credentials
- Active U.S. Tier 3 / Secret security clearance at time of assignment
- High school diploma or GED
Desired Qualifications
- Current BICSI certification is held
- BICSI Registered Cabling Installer, Technician level
- In lieu of BICSI certification: at least three years of relevant copper and fiber installation experience plus current factory or factory-approved certifications from applicable equipment manufacturers demonstrating qualification to install and test the products used
- Current OSHA 10-Hour Construction or equivalent safety training
- Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Fiber-Optic Safety, and First Aid/CPR certifications
- CompTIA Security+
- Technical school, military communications training, telecommunications apprenticeship, associate degree, or equivalent formal training in electronics, networking, fiber optics, or telecommunications
