Cable Harness Design Engineer

Job Summary

Design and develop cable harness layouts, assemblies, routing schemes, and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies based on customer input and internal specifications. Create and maintain 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, including connector interfaces, strain relief features, transitions, and overmolding details. Conceptualize manufacturable design solutions, perform tolerance analysis, and conduct design reviews to ensure fit, function, and compliance with applicable standards. Partner with component engineering, manufacturing, and operations to obtain dimensional data, define models, and initiate engineering change notices for design revisions. Resolve design-related issues regarding performance and producibility while supporting supplier development efforts and new product testing. Requires U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and 2–5 years of cable harness design experience. Full-time onsite role in Allen, TX with a salary range of $70,000 - $95,000.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical, or a related technical discipline
  • 2–5 years of experience in cable harness design, cable assembly drafting, or mechanical design
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident status required to satisfy ITAR requirements
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, blueprints, assembly drawings, and customer/internal specifications
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling of assemblies and components and development of detailed 2D drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Solid understanding of cable harness design principles, including routing, connector selection, strain relief, bundling, shielding, and environmental considerations
  • Strong customer service mindset and professional demeanor

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in fiber optic product design or related connectivity products
  • Experience with overmolding, sealed connectors, environmental qualification, or harsh-environment assemblies
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, part setup, and engineering change processes
  • Experience working with suppliers and component sourcing
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and product release processes
