Job Summary
Implement, integrate, and optimise complex mathematical and signal processing models into production software for next-generation sonar systems and autonomous undersea vehicles. Apply model-driven development using autogenerated and hand-written C++ code while ensuring high quality through static analysis and clean coding principles. Collaborate on model simulation, validation, and verification using MATLAB/Simulink, support unit and wider software testing, and maintain comprehensive documentation. Contribute to ongoing architecture improvements and toolchain evolution within a multi-disciplinary defence engineering team. Requires 8+ years of C++ experience, UK SC clearance eligibility, and proficiency in Linux targets. Based in Manchester (Stockport) with a 4-5 day on-site schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in C++ development
- Experience with software architectures and system software design
- Expertise in mathematics & signal processing, and model implementation capabilities
- Familiarity with Linux targets and development infrastructure
- Knowledge of software development processes, configuration management (SCM, Jira), and unit testing
- Understanding of container deployment, networking, and GPU integration where relevant
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline or relevant technical military background with equivalent hands-on experience
- Must be eligible for or already hold UK Security Clearance (SC)
- Must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with Linux scripting, Windows targets, and software build pipelines
- Exposure to software QA, safety compliance, and assurance practices
- Knowledge of Defence sector processes and tooling
- Awareness of CI/CD, containerisation, virtualisation, and emerging development methodologies
