Job Summary
Procures and manages product within the designated produce category, conducts market analysis to inform purchasing, sources product to maximize profitability while balancing freight, availability, quality, and timing. Maintains targeted inventory levels, collaborates with logistics, sales, and warehouse teams to ensure real-time inventory visibility and on-time fulfillment. Provides pricing, documentation, and timelines to support claims and invoice accuracy; prepares and submits purchase orders within typical cycle times. Develops and sustains strong vendor and shipper relationships, represents the company in on-site and off-site interactions, and supports the Sales team with market insights and price guidance. Leads Buyer Assistants, coaches team members, and participates in industry events as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of perishability Standards, growing cycles, and market conditions; bilingual communication is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3-5 years experience in produce procurement, wholesale buying, or supply chain operations
- Experience in Hunts Point or similar wholesale terminal market strongly preferred
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, inventory systems, and ERP platforms
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for vendor interaction and internal collaboration
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
