Job Summary
Design and implement long-range procurement plans for critical aircraft systems, conducting macro-economic analysis to anticipate raw material pricing fluctuations. Lead the preparation and issuance of RFIs and RFPs, evaluate supplier bids for compliance, and execute negotiation strategies to secure optimal commercial value. Manage total cost, including price, quality, freight, and inventory carrying costs, while identifying underperforming vendors for cross-functional improvement teams. Derive purchasing requirements from engineering data and ERP inputs, construct procurement plans based on MDL and BOM scopes, and facilitate technical data transfers to suppliers. Support material readiness for First Article Inspections and ground tests, assisting in problem-solving for long-lead critical path materials. Function as a lead for junior Buyer roles, providing guidance on FAR/DFARS compliance and advanced negotiation tactics. Full-time exempt position with Monday through Friday hours; on-call availability required. Travel up to 20% including international.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated experience
- 5–10+ years’ experience developing and managing purchasing requirements for aviation MRO activities
- Preference for a Part 21/Modification focused background
- Demonstrated experience negotiating high value contracts and strategic sourcing
- Demonstrated mitigation of global supply chain risks
- Technical background in aerospace manufacturing processes and/or aircraft systems
- Knowledge and understanding of Aviation Part Numbers/Alternate Part Numbers and National Stock Numbers
- Demonstrated proficiency in understanding the documentation required for a part to be 'airworthy.'
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, IPC diagrams, and blueprints
- Ability to derive purchasing requirements from proprietary data sets
- Demonstrated ERP/MRP Proficiency through managing assigned parts, item masters, vendor records, and running reports
- Experience interacting with and counselling senior business leaders
- Ability to be on-call and available
