Business Unit Risk Officer (On-site)

Job Summary

Provide risk advice and serve as a trusted first-line risk leader to assigned Business Units, translating enterprise resiliency and control requirements into practical execution plans. Assess operational, technology, and third-party risks, partner with leaders to identify control gaps, and drive timely remediation of weaknesses. Aggregate and communicate risk insights through governance routines and executive reporting, challenging Business Units to self-identify issues and confirm sustainable fixes. Monitor emerging risks and support risk appetite decisions while balancing risk reduction with business execution. Full-time, on-site role requiring 6+ years in financial institution risk management; no visa sponsorship available.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field, or equivalent education and related training
  • 6+ years of experience in a financial institution with emphasis on risk management or equivalent work experience and training, and/or equivalent education, training and experience
  • Experience in compliance and operational risk mitigation and remediation
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills in complex environments and with senior leadership
  • Strong time management and organizational skills adaptable to a dynamic and complex work environment; Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight

  • In office expectations are 5 days per week

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in enterprise resiliency, business continuity, crisis management, disaster recovery, operational resilience, technology risk, third-party risk, or related risk programs
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted risk leader with an ownership mindset, proactively identifying risk themes, escalating with 'no surprises,' and driving practical risk-reducing actions
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect risk, controls, issues, and resiliency concerns to business priorities, operational outcomes, client impact, and executive decision-making
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise risk and control concepts, including control design and effectiveness, operational risk, strategic risk, issue management, remediation oversight, risk appetite, and risk program deliverables
  • Ability to influence across business, technology, operations, second line, and enterprise partners through constructive challenge, clear communication, and relationship-based leadership
  • Strong project management and execution discipline, with the ability to move work forward, manage dependencies, track commitments, and maintain momentum in a complex environment
  • Executive-ready communication and presentation skills, including the ability to simplify complex risk topics into clear themes, decisions, risks, and actions
  • Comfort using data, analytics, automation, AI, workflow tools, and reporting capabilities to improve risk visibility, productivity, and business-facing insights
