Business Operations Manager

Job Summary
Manage the monthly finance cycle, including reconciliations, management accounts, expenses, invoicing, and maintaining current cash, burn, runway, and budget data. Own people operations such as payroll, onboarding, contracts, benefits, and employee documentation while ensuring new hires have an excellent start. Coordinate with payroll providers, pension schemes, banks, insurers, and legal counsel to handle filings, VAT, statutory obligations, and insurance compliance. Oversee vendor relationships and renewals for significant compute and infrastructure commitments. Maintain the London office by managing space, equipment, suppliers, and support events. Transform founder-led manual workflows into documented processes and prepare inputs for board materials and investor updates.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years in operations, business operations, finance operations, or a similar role, including time in a startup or fast-moving technology company
- At least one role held long enough to live with the systems you built and fix them when they broke
- Exceptional diligence. You keep lists, you trust your system more than your memory, and you close things out, including the tedious ones
- Numerate and comfortable in spreadsheets, with the judgment to know when a figure looks wrong
- Genuinely AI-native. You already use these tools daily and reach for them first when work repeats
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as the ops person at a company between 15 and 60 people
- Exposure to venture-backed company operations: fundraising processes, board reporting, cap table administration
- Experience working across multiple entities, currencies, or employment systems, particularly UK and Germany
- Familiarity with Xero, payroll platforms, HRIS (Personio, Bob) and expense tools, Carta, Notion, or Google Workspace
- Real interest in AI, machine learning, computer vision, 3D technology, or deep tech
