Job Summary
Oversees district accounting and budget operations to support the school district’s educational mission. Responsibilities include planning and organizing cost center accounting, assisting the superintendent with annual operational budgeting and required state reports, ensuring funds are properly deposited and recorded, maintaining financial records, implementing and maintaining accounting software, supervising payroll and employee benefit programs, preparing monthly and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, and providing financial data to principals and department heads. The role involves supervising staff, coordinating with the board and administrators, and participating in financial policy development and long-range planning.
Required Qualifications
- Educator License with an business manager endorsement issued by the Mississippi Department of Education
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting
- Evidence of public school district business manager capabilities including, but not limited to, previous public school district assignments
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, practices, and mandated accounting system of budget administration and budget planning operations for Mississippi public school district
- Ability to plan, assign, and direct a staff of subordinates
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, the school board, department heads, city officials, and other school employees and lay persons
- Such other qualifications as may be set by the Board of Trustees
