The Seattle Times seeks a visionary Business Editor to set editorial direction for aerospace, technology, real estate, and local economy coverage, supervising a team including one editor and eight reporters; lead daily news and enterprise reporting, collaborate with visual and digital teams, mentor journalists, and guide coverage to reach and retain readers while promoting diversity and inclusive journalism.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years experience at a news organization
- supervisory experience
- excellent team-leadership skills
- proven success recruiting, hiring, developing and retaining top talent
- experience reporting and editing business coverage including complex enterprise stories and breaking news
- strong news judgment and high standards of accuracy, honesty and fairness
- cultural competence and inclusive journalism
- sophisticated communication skills and ability to negotiate, collaborate and engage with staff, leadership and readers
- ability to coach reporters to find, shape and report stories using datasets, earnings reports, and public records requests
- familiarity with laws governing bankruptcy, employment, debt and other business matters
