Job Summary
Business Advisor to support the NH Small Business Development Center Southern Region. Responsibilities include evaluating small business issues and providing solutions-based approaches across finance, marketing, administration, regulatory, and other management areas; conducting research on small business issues; maintaining client files; liaising with Lead Center; and delivering one-on-one confidential business advising, helping clients develop business, financing, and marketing plans, as well as addressing management issues including personnel and market conditions. Requires interviewing clients, identifying needs, sharing appropriate educational resources, developing and implementing timely solutions, and promoting the SBDC program through presentations and outreach. Travel is anticipated; strong emphasis on client relationships, data management (MIS), and collaboration with partners and referral networks. Preferred qualifications include an MBA and extensive experience in business advising or consulting for external clients. The role is based in Durham, NH, and is funded by external sponsor funds with potential employment changes if funds are reduced.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in accounting, business management, or related field
- 3-5 years of accounting/financial management or related experience
- Three to five years of business advising experience
- One year of operational experience
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Willingness to travel extensively on short notice and overnight stays if required
- Some familiarity with computer programming and data analysis techniques
- Small business ownership experience preferred
- Experience in a consulting or related service organization working with external clients
- Knowledge of specialized business areas such as accounting, sales, or marketing
- MBA preferred or equivalency by training and experience considered
