Job Summary
Bus Operator responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and school-related activities. Duties include adhering to WVBE Policy 4336 and county regulations, performing pre- and post-inspections, maintaining route schedules and student rosters, operating the bus safely, using safety equipment, assisting students (including those with disabilities), communicating with students, parents and school officials, and completing required paperwork. Must obtain and maintain a West Virginia CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, complete mandated safety programs and certifications (including West Virginia School Bus Safety Program, First Aid, CPR), and pass a medical examination and drug/alcohol screenings. Requires physical ability to lift and move, inspect and operate bus equipment, and comply with regulatory safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements
- Successful completion of required school bus operator training
- Ability to pass required physical examination and drug/alcohol testing
- Ability to pass service personnel competency testing
- Clean driving record in accordance with state and county requirements
- Meets the definition of Bus Operator (WV Code §18A-4-8)
- West Virginia CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement
- West Virginia School Bus Safety Program completion
- First Aid Certification
- CRP certification
- PRIOR to employment: medical examination per FMCSA requirements
