Job Summary
Operate bus #269 transporting students between Hedgesville High, Middle, Tomahawk Intermediate, and Elementary schools on a split-shift schedule from approximately 5:30 am to 9:00 am and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Perform pre/post trip inspections, safely use fire extinguishers, assist students with disabilities, and clean the vehicle interior and exterior. Complete monthly reports, conduct annual orientation on regulations, and perform maintenance tasks including checking oil levels, installing snow chains, and raising the hood. Work overtime as needed and maintain valid WV CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have at least three years of driving experience as a licensed operator of any vehicle
- Must obtain and maintain WV CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsements
- Must successfully complete WV School Bus Safety Program and pass requisite online and skills tests
- Must be able to climb in and out of bus to check engine compartment
- Must maintain valid CPR and First Aide Certification
- Must pass a physical examination form a Medical Examiner as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration as well as drug and alcohol screen
- Must meet all requirements outlined in WV State Board of Education Policy 4336
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detail but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired students
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
