Job Summary
Ride buses and help drivers ensure safe and orderly transportation of students. Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs, including lifting and carrying students with disabilities. Supervise students as they board and exit the bus, escort them into buildings, and deliver them to assigned destinations. Instruct students on safe riding rules, manage behavior, and report discipline problems to administrators. Complete accurate route sheets and daily reports, assist drivers with pre- and post-trip inspections, and follow district safety protocols for emergencies and first aid. Work inside and outside in various weather conditions while handling frequent physical demands such as lifting up to 45 pounds and positioning adaptive equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities
- Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or over)
- Positioning of students with physical disabilities
- Controlling behavior through physical restraint
- Assisting nonambulatory students
- Lifting and moving adaptive equipment
- Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather)
- Exposure to noise and vehicle fumes
- Exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
- Work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts
- May work irregular or prolonged hours
- Maintain emotional control under stress
