Job Summary
Ensure the safety and well-being of students and adults during bus operations by conducting daily comprehensive inspections, maintaining sufficient fuel, and keeping the vehicle clean and free of debris. Operate the bus in compliance with road and safety regulations while managing morning routes starting as early as 5:50 A.M. and afternoon routes beginning at 3:00 P.M. Follow procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on the bus, evacuate passengers during emergencies, and complete required accident reports. Support field lessons and school activities as needed, while attending in-service training and inventorying emergency supplies. This part-time, hourly position requires a current CDL (B) with a school bus endorsement and involves working flexible schedules with potential travel to adverse weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Possess a current Commercial Driver's License Class B with a school bus endorsement
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to pass a School Bus Driver's physical which includes a drug test
- Must be able to comply with a background check, including fingerprints
- Have a valid Mississippi driver's license
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus
- Must have effective organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Ability to learn and comprehend information from Procedures Manuals and other materials
- Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required
- Ability to perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies
- Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance
- Must be able to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions
