Job Summary
Perform major and minor mechanical repairs and diagnostics on district vehicles, and conduct preventive maintenance to ensure safety and proper performance. Work with the lead mechanic on major repairs, service vehicles according to maintenance schedules, inspect systems and perform welding and minor body work. Maintain accurate records of time, materials, and preventive maintenance; follow safety procedures, operate diagnostic tools and equipment, and communicate effectively. Requires a Texas CDL with P and S endorsements (or willingness to obtain) and 3 years of mechanic experience. May operate buses and district vehicles as needed; physical demands include heavy lifting and working in varied environments.
Required Qualifications
- Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Willingness to obtain endorsements
- Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine maintenance and repair
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Ability to access and use printed service materials
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- 3 years experience as mechanic
