Job Summary
Supervise students on bus, maintain time frame, safeguard equipment, and transport students to and from school on time and safely. Keep accurate records, time sheets, and mileage reports while controlling students in a firm and safe atmosphere. Cooperate with investigations of liability for accidents involving state-owned school buses and assist with pupil insurance details. Establish and maintain relationships with students and parents, keep equipment clean inside and outside, and drive the bus safely while complying with state and county guidelines. Adhere to alcohol and controlled substances testing requirements and successfully complete the state school bus driver training course and physical performance test.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Minimum of high school diploma
- Have a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) which must not have more than four (4) points against his/her driving record in the previous twelve (12) months
- Proof of American Citizenship or Employment Authorization
- School Bus Driver shall be required to have a physical prior to initial certification and recertification as a bus driver
- Satisfactorily complete the state school bus driver training course and receive a School Bus Driver's Certificate
- Bus Drivers are required to take the School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test (PPT)
- Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds
- Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry
- Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
- Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds
