Job Summary
Operate a school bus on assigned routes, transporting students and authorized personnel to and from schools or designated locations while adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations. Supervise students during boarding and disembarking, enforce safe riding rules, and manage student behavior in accordance with district discipline procedures. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, including fuel, tires, lights, and brakes, and report mechanical defects or accidents immediately. Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and passenger lists, while keeping the bus clean and fueled. Communicate daily with teachers and parents regarding student conduct and operate two-way radio equipment to coordinate with the transportation office.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B), with passenger endorsement
- Valid School Bus Driver Certification
- Must be 21 years of age
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of student discipline procedure
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to operate bus
- Acceptable driving record as verified by the Texas Department of Public Safety annually
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
