Job Summary
Transport elderly and special needs residents to local appointments, shopping centers, and field trips while assisting with loading and unloading. Model safety procedures, conduct daily safety checks, and complete weekly operational reports for CHP and Department of Transportation. Maintain bus cleanliness, manage preventative maintenance schedules, and ensure compliance with all DOT regulations. Drive safely in all weather conditions while operating the bus and wheelchair lift. Requires a valid Class B license, medical certification, and basic math skills for paperwork.
Required Qualifications
- Valid class B driver's license with passenger endorsement
- Good driving record
- Medical Certification as required by DOT
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol exam
- Enrollment in random substance & alcohol program testing
- Ability to pass and maintain insurance clearance from SAHA insurance carrier
- Ability to safely operate bus and wheelchair lift
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to work under time demands
- Ability to remain calm and pleasant with the occasionally demanding rider, family member, etc.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and common sense in determining how to respond to requests from residents and staff
- Ability to safely operate bus and wheelchair lift
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds
- Good hearing and vision
- Ability to work independently
Desired Qualifications
- At least two years of previous van/shuttle driving experience
- Prior experience working with special needs populations
- Ability to speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog or Spanish
- Ability to evaluate rider satisfaction
- Patient and positive attitude
- Ability to maintain a pleasant, friendly and respectful demeanor when dealing with riders
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
