Job Summary
Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students in a prompt and efficient manner. Safely operate the bus under all varying weather conditions while properly supervising passengers to maintain order and discipline. Assist in loading and unloading handicapped children as necessary and take proper care of the vehicle to ensure it remains clean and in safe operation. Conduct routine inspections, maintain records, and recognize equipment malfunctions. Attend safety meetings and workshops as determined by the Director of Transportation. This role supports Daviess County Public Schools, with contracts lasting 181 days per year.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law
- one year experience in the operation of a motor vehicle
- successfully completed all training and tests required by state and local boards
- demonstrated ability to work with children
- Valid Kentucky commercial Class B driver's license (CDL), including passenger and school bus endorsements
- at least 21 years of age
- knowledge of Provisions of the State Motor Vehicle code and Kentucky Administration Regulations applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students
- First aid practices
- Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites
