Job Summary
Transport students to and from school and on special trips, while operating a school bus in a safe and timely manner. The driver is responsible to the Principal for time schedules and pupil discipline and to the Transportation Manager for safety, vehicle maintenance and policy procedures. Essential duties include operating the bus on designated routes, maintaining safety, supervising passengers, assisting with loading/unloading handicapped children, performing routine inspections and records, recognizing equipment malfunctions, attending safety trainings, and adhering to regulations and district directives.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (or demonstrated progress toward GED) as required by Kentucky law
- One year experience in the operation of a motor vehicle
- Completed training and tests required by state and local boards; one-year experience in operating a motor vehicle
- Demonstrates competent language skills
- Demonstrates ability to work with children
- Valid Kentucky commercial Class B driver’s license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements must be obtained prior to driving a bus without a trainer
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Knowledge of State Motor Vehicle code and Kentucky Administration Regulations for transporting students
- First aid practices
- Interpersonal skills with tact and courtesy
- Basic computer skills (mouse/keyboard)
