Job Summary
Conduct daily bus operations for Route 62, transporting students and authorized personnel safely to and from schools, events, and field trips in strict accordance with route sheets and traffic laws. Operate and secure equipment for students with disabilities, perform mandatory daily safety inspections of the vehicle, and maintain interior cleanliness and equipment. Enforce bus regulations regarding passenger conduct, utilize two-way radios for communications, and report accidents, injuries, or delays immediately. Administer first aid as needed and exercise responsible leadership during district activities. Maintain high ethical standards, confidentiality of student information, and a professional public image while adhering to all DOT safety regulations and attending required training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children
- Valid Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of students and sponsors
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints
- Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others
- Ability to react well under pressure
- Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at one time
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Ability to perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism
- Ability to use independent judgment
- Demonstrates initiative to act without being asked
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Pass a physical exam by a certified medical examiner to obtain and retain a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
- Mandatory pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks
