Job Summary
Conduct daily route functions to transport students and authorized personnel safely to and from school or designated locations per route sheet and trip ticket instructions. Operate, care for, and clean buses, including sweeping, emptying trash, and performing required daily safety inspections of the interior, exterior, and engine. Secure equipment for students with disabilities, enforce regulations prohibiting eating, drinking, and phone use, and administer first aid or handle emergency situations per established guidelines. Utilize two-way radios for communications, report accidents and delays, and complete related logs and reports. Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information while promoting good public relations through professional appearance and attitude.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children
- Valid Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system
- Ability to present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints
- Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others
- Ability to react well under pressure
- Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at one time
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Ability to perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism
- Ability to use independent judgment
- Ability to demonstrate initiative to act without being asked
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Pass a physical exam by a certified medical examiner to obtain and retain a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
- Mandatory pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks
