Job Summary
Operate school buses to transport students and authorized personnel safely to and from schools, designated locations, and field trips in accordance with route sheets and trip tickets. Secure equipment for students with disabilities, enforce safety regulations regarding passenger conduct, and administer first aid during emergencies. Conduct daily safety inspections of bus interiors, exteriors, and engines, reporting mechanical issues and completing required logs. Utilize two-way radios for communications, report accidents and delays, and maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality. Perform cleaning duties, sweep trash, and attend in-service training to maintain driving and student management skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children
- Valid Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of students and sponsors
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints
- Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others
- Ability to react well under pressure
- Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at one time
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Ability to perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism
- Ability to use independent judgment
- Demonstrates initiative to act without being asked
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Pass a physical exam by a certified medical examiner to obtain and retain a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
- Mandatory pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks
