Job Summary
Conduct safe and efficient transportation of students and authorized personnel to and from schools, designated locations, and field trips in accordance with route sheets and trip tickets. Operate and secure equipment for students with disabilities, maintain daily safety inspections of buses, and perform required cleaning and equipment care. Enforce regulations regarding passenger behavior, administer first aid in emergencies, and utilize two-way radios for communications while reporting accidents and delays. Maintain high ethical standards, complete required logs and reports, and attend in-service training to improve driving and student management skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children
- Valid Class B CDL with P and S endorsements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of students and sponsors
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints
- Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others
- Ability to react well under pressure
- Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at one time
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Ability to perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism
- Ability to use independent judgment
- Demonstrates initiative to act without being asked
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Pass a physical exam by a certified medical examiner to obtain and retain a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
- Mandatory pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks
