Job Summary
Conduct safe transportation of passengers and materials between NYIT's LI campus and Jericho Residence Hall using a 40+ passenger bus. Perform pre-trip inspections of vehicle systems, monitor gauges, refuel, and assist passengers with disabilities. Supervise loading and unloading, coordinate with dispatch via communication equipment, and maintain manifests, inventories, and trip records. Report malfunctions and perform emergency maintenance tasks like bulb replacement or tire inflation. Transport vehicles to repair vendors as needed. This 9-month part-time role involves weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) with an 8-hour shift up to 20 hours weekly. Valid CDL Class B license with Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class B license with Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements
- Ability to obtain 19A certification as required by New York State DMV
- Clean motor vehicle record without major violations
- Compliance with Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
- Must be available for part-time work
- Must be available for weekends
- Must be available for Saturdays
- Must be available for Sundays
- Must be available for 8 hour shifts
- Must be available for up to 20 hours a week
- Must be available for a 9 month position
