Job Summary
Operate public transit vehicles for demand response services, including boarding passengers to their destinations. Collect fares and sell bus passes, then fuel the bus nightly. Clean and disinfect the vehicle during downtime and at shift end. Complete required operating reports, incident logs, and deficiency reports for the Maintenance Coordinator. Attend transportation training and educational seminars as needed. Maintain a positive atmosphere by communicating effectively with customers, coworkers, and management while controlling emotions in difficult situations. Show up to work as scheduled and perform other duties as assigned. This part-time FLSA non-exempt role offers flexible hours with occasional overtime and may require Saturday work.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Pass pre-hire testing including a background check, physical, and drug test
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
- Ability to receive, read, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions
- Fluent English speaking and writing ability
- Ability to speak a foreign language (helpful)
- Ability to operate a tablet
- Ability to work with, relate to and feel comfortable with the general public including the elderly and disabled
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Fluent communication ability, both verbally and in writing
- Sufficient visual acuity to be able to read, write and operate public vehicles
- Sufficient hearing level to operate vehicles and communicate by two-way radio
- Ability to lift items weighting up to 40 pounds to a height of 36 inches
- Ability to assist wheelchair bound passengers with loading, unloading and securing wheelchairs during transport
- Driving record approved by the agency insuring the public transit vehicles
- Valid and current Class C driver's license at all times
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment DOT transportation physical examination
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, the general public, fellow coworkers and management
- Being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude
- Maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations
- Must be reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfill obligations
- Must show up to work as scheduled
- Saturday work may be required
