Job Summary
Drive a school bus safely in accordance with Federal and Ohio State Laws, transporting students to and from various school sites and activities. Oversee student loading and unloading, releasing them to authorized individuals, and secure students or wheelchairs as required. Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle, maintain accurate records for mileage, routing, and maintenance, and follow strict time schedules. Maintain order and discipline among passengers while resolving disputes and documenting severe disciplinary cases. Operate special lift buses for students with disabilities when assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent
- A valid and appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with State of Ohio Certification to drive a school bus
- Satisfactory completion of BCII and FBI background checks
- Knowledge of effective child guidance practices and principles
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to complete mandated training requirements required for licensing by the Ohio Department of Education
- Ability to effectively communicate and relate to students in a positive and sensitive manner
- Ability to maintain effectiveness in a stressful situation
- Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
- The ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, with tact, diplomacy and excellent grammar
- The demonstration of effective listening skills
- Remaining free of any alcohol or controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Beachwood City School District
- Ability to hear and speak, read and write, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer and other equipment, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead – above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies, ability to lift, carry, push and pull items up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Two or more years experience as a bus driver preferred
