Job Summary
Operates a school bus to transport regular education and handicapped students to and from school, following district procedures, performing pre-trip checks, monitoring student behavior, picking up/dropping off at designated stops, and reporting incidents as required. Requires NC driver’s license, NC CDL endorsement, and completion of bus driver training; duties include safe driving, route adherence, vehicle maintenance reporting, and effective communication with students, parents, and school authorities.
Required Qualifications
- A valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- North Carolina CDL endorsement
- Completion of bus driver training classes
- Knowledge of driving laws and regulations
- Knowledge of safe bus operations
- Knowledge of vehicle pre-run checks and their performance
- Recordkeeping skills to maintain records of names and addresses of students, locations and times of stops, route information, and time sheets
- Administrative skills to implement established policies and procedures regarding student transportation, enforcing rules of student conduct and discipline
- Communication skills in dealing with students daily; communicating with parents regarding bus routes and discipline problems, and advising the school of bus malfunctions
