Job Summary
Drive a school bus daily following assigned routes and adhering to established schedules, including trips to and from extracurricular activities. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain vehicle cleanliness and fuel levels, and report accidents, injuries, or mechanical issues. Instruct students on safety rules, supervise boarding and exiting, manage discipline, and conduct emergency evacuations as needed. Observe traffic laws, ensure emergency equipment is functional, and install snow chains during inclement weather. Communicate via two-way radio, complete accurate mileage and consumption reports, and maintain safety certification. Requires a valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
Required Qualifications
- Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to operate bus
