Job Summary
Bus Driver- Head Start role responsible for transporting pre-school children and families to Head Start activities and events. Requires 40 hours/week full-time with a summer layoff. Duties include operating the bus safely, assisting with classroom activities when needed, helping with meals and classroom cleanliness, maintaining route information and emergency logs, performing pre-trip inspections, and complying with CDL/DOT requirements. Must have a Michigan CDL with passenger endorsements (A/B/C), pass background checks, annual training, and comply with Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse rules. Education required is a high school diploma or equivalent; CDA levels and driving credentials must be maintained. The position is located in Lansing, MI, and is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- No CDA (Bus Driver I)
- CDA (Bus Driver II)
- Minimum of 5 years driving experience
- Chauffeur's license and State of Michigan CDL with A, B, or C endorsements and ability to obtain medical card
- Complete prerequisite training, CDL skills and road test, Beginning Bus Driver Training, and a 6-hour CE course every 2 years
- Credentials available upon request while driving a CACS vehicle
- Enroll in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse (FMCSA)
- No more than six active points within 24 months on driving record
- Report any moving violations or license suspensions as required by law
- Operate bus safely
- Perform monthly bus evacuations with staff, children, and families
- Be familiar with First Aid Kit contents and emergency procedures
- Maintain route book with current information and logs
- Conduct pre-trip inspections per Federal/State law and Head Start Manual
- Maintain bus interior/exterior cleanliness and safety
- Be aware of potentially unsafe surroundings
- Background check and drug screening as required by licensing regulations and agency policies
