Job Summary
Operate a school bus transporting students to and from school, activities, and events while performing pre- and post-trip inspections and reporting equipment deficiencies. Clean the bus inside and out, fuel the vehicle as needed, and ensure passenger safety by maintaining discipline and conducting emergency evacuation drills. Obey traffic laws, record mileage, and maintain operational records under moderate supervision. Requires a valid North Carolina commercial driver's license with passenger and bus endorsements, high school diploma, and at least six months of driving experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 6 months of driving experience as a licensed operator of a motor vehicle
- Must be 18 years of age
- Valid commercial driver's license with passenger and bus endorsement in the State of North Carolina
- Commercial Driver's License with P and S Endorsement
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment
- Ability to assist children using patience and understanding
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the general public
- General knowledge of operating a school bus
- General knowledge of the geography of the District and the location of streets
- Skill in the safe operation of a school bus
- Ability to perform related work as required
