Job Summary
Drive a school bus safely and professionally, transporting children to and from school in the mornings and afternoons. Perform daily pre-trip inspections before and after each route, maintain a clean and mechanically-sound vehicle, and ensure safety of all students. Verify permissions for children riding home with friends, assist students with boarding and alighting, and discipline children when required to maintain a safe environment. Prepare accurate reports, seating charts, and student information lists, and perform practice drills or emergency evacuations as needed. Obey all traffic laws and ordinances, attend scheduled safety meetings, and comply with the State Department of Education's School Bus Drivers Handbook.
Required Qualifications
- Valid CDL license
- School Bus Driver Certificate
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Class D, E, F, or G license
- At least six (6) months licensed driving experience
- No more than four (4) points against driving record
- License not suspended in the previous five (5) years
- Must be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License
- Must not have more than 4 current points on their license
- Must not have more than 4 points on their license in the previous 12 months
- Must not have had their license suspended in the previous 12 months for a moving violation
- Must not be taking Insulin by injection
- Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation Physical exam
- Must be able to pass a written test
- Must pass the General Knowledge Test
- Must pass the Air Brake Test
- Must pass the Passenger Endorsement Test
- Must pass the Federal 'School Bus' Endorsement Test
- Must receive the actual 'Behind The Wheel' driving training (Min. 20 hours)
- Must meet with the Director of Transportation to discuss employment
- Must be able to perform each essential duty in a pleasant, professional, efficient manner
- Must be reliable, responsible and dependable
- Must be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License and a School Bus Driver Certificate
