Job Summary
Operate a school bus on assigned routes, transporting students and authorized personnel to and from school or designated locations while strictly adhering to established schedules and traffic laws. Supervise students during boarding and dismissal, instruct them on safe riding rules, and maintain discipline by assigning seating and reporting behavioral issues to the appropriate principal. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete required forms, check for mechanical defects, and report any accidents, injuries, or failures immediately. Keep the bus fueled, clean, and ensure all emergency equipment is in proper condition. Communicate daily with the transportation office regarding student behavior and hazardous route conditions, while attending mandatory safety training and maintaining required certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Arkansas commercial driver's license (Class B) with Passenger, Air Brake, and S endorsements
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
- Must be able to pass a criminal history check and DPS physical
- Must have acceptable driving record
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of student discipline procedure
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to operate bus
