Job Summary
Operate school bus on assigned route to transport students and authorized persons safely and on schedule; perform pre- and post-trip inspections; maintain bus cleanliness and fuel levels; report accidents or issues; supervise and manage student behavior during boarding, riding, and unloading; assist with lifting or aiding students with disabilities as needed; become familiar with routes and adhere to schedules; observe traffic laws and safety regulations; operate two-way radio to communicate with transportation office; maintain accurate records (mileage, fuel, passengers); work irregular hours (split shift); ensure safety equipment is functional and emergency procedures are in place; perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to use maps and GPS to follow routes and locate addresses
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Excellent personal and interpersonal skills
