Job Summary
Bus Driver (2 positions) in Davidson County Schools area: Operate assigned school bus on route(s) and schedule(s) to transport students safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, obeying traffic laws and school bus regulations, maintaining discipline among students, completing required reports, securing the bus after each run, and coordinating with bus coordinators and supervisors to adjust routes as needed. Requires high school graduation, a North Carolina CDL with P and S endorsements, experience driving large vehicles, ability to inspect and maintain the bus, and strong safety and reporting skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from high school and some experience driving large vehicles, with some experience transporting humans preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with both a P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsement
- Ability to inspect the bus according to Transportation Operating Instructions
- Ability to detect and report observable mechanical defects or failures on the school bus
- Ability to maintain discipline of students assigned to ride the bus
- Ability to complete required records
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Must be physically able to operate a school bus and perform required physical tasks (lifting, climbing, kneeling, etc.)
