Job Summary
Operate a school bus on assigned routes and schedules to provide safe, reliable student transportation. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, follow traffic laws and school bus regulations, maintain student discipline, complete required reports, and secure the bus at the end of runs. Requires high school graduation, valid NC CDL with P and S endorsements, and ability to adapt to changing schedules. Positions include regular pay with hourly rates for Bus Driver and Bus Substitute, 10-month/as-needed terms, and a 15-hour weekly schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements
- Considerable knowledge of safe and efficient practices in bus operation
- Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects
- Ability to maintain discipline of students on bus
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative
- Ability to understand and follow transportation instructions
- Ability to communicate with school personnel and parents/guardians
- Experience driving large vehicles; experience transporting humans preferred
