Job Summary
Skilled school-vehicle mechanic responsible for preventive maintenance checks, disassembly/assembly of vehicle components, and repairs on school board buses and drivers’ training cars. Duties include servicing gas and diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, cooling and fuel systems, welding, and responding to emergency road calls. Requires operating diverse vehicle types, following specifications, and adhering to safety regulations; must be able to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with students and school staff.
Required Qualifications
- Preferably a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Possess a valid commercial driver’s license properly endorsed to drive a school bus
- Possess a valid state inspection license
- Ability to operate all vehicle types used in the division
- Skilled automotive mechanical work experience on gas and diesel vehicles
- Ability to plan work and carry out duties without supervision
- Ability to work from specifications and oral instructions
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to the trade
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with students, school personnel and community
