Job Summary

Load and unload students while ensuring safety, orderly conduct, and seat belt compliance. Maintain discipline on the bus, report negative behavior through proper channels, and check for passengers or belongings after each run. Administer emergency first aid as needed, operate emergency and wheelchair equipment, and assist the driver during backing or emergencies. Report all safety problems and incidents immediately to management and authorities. Participate in bus safety drills, keep evacuation plans current, and adhere to all department policies. Maintain certification requirements and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with special needs
  • Strong communication and human relations skills
  • Ability to work with various groups, teachers, administrators, and students
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all policies, regulations, and procedures
  • Vision and hearing are adequate to exercise job responsibilities in a safe manner
  • High School diploma, GED, or its equivalent
  • Must be able to pass a physical performance test in accordance with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Administrative Code
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of force frequently
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of force constantly
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and sit
  • Must have manual dexterity and repetitive finger motion capability
  • Must have speaking, hearing, and seeing ability (with or without correction)
  • Must be able to maintain focus for extended periods
  • Must be able to travel
  • Must be able to work in conditions with odors, dust, and poor ventilation
  • Must be able to work in limited workspace, loud noises, and bloodborne pathogens

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with special needs is desired
  • High School diploma, GED, or its equivalent is desired
