Job Summary
Provide physical and emotional support to 10 to 25 special needs students during daily transportation, assisting with loading, unloading, seating, buckling, and hygiene tasks. Teach safe riding conduct and functional life skills while monitoring student behavior and interacting appropriately with peers and staff. Operate, maintain, and clean the bus, including sweeping, emptying trash, and managing waste disposal. Relay information between parents, teachers, and school personnel, and serve as the primary contact for substitute drivers. Follow all safety regulations, participate in emergency drills, and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- Previous experience working with children
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked
- Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks
