Job Summary
Monitor students embarking and disembarking the school bus, ensuring appropriate behavior, securing restraints, and removing safety hazards. Escort students requiring assistance to stops, de-escalate conflicts, and attend to minor medical needs or basic first aid. Assist drivers in loading wheelchair-bound students, conducting pre/post trips, maintaining cleanliness, and managing accurate attendance records. Closely supervise medically fragile special education students, maintain their hygiene needs, and assist in evacuating the bus. Report behavioral violations and incidents requiring emergency response to the driver and Director of Transportation. Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to safety procedures under extreme temperatures and noise. Submit to biennial physical performance testing and drug screening.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job
- The ability to read and write in order to communicate and receive instruction
- The ability to speak polite English in order to communicate and receive instruction
- Minimum age requirement of 21 years old
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification
- Must submit and pass a biennial Physical Performance Test
- Must submit to drug and alcohol drug screening in accordance with federal laws and Governing Board policies
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of applicable Alhambra Elementary School District and departmental policies and procedures
- Safety procedures and guidelines
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, the supervisor, the general public, etc., are sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
